On March 15, 2020 Her Holiness Shinso Ito shared a video message with the Shinnyo-en community in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Her Holiness called for Shinnyo-en practitioners to not only pray but to also take action during this unprecedented time of fear and uncertainty. MORE

As the coronavirus pandemic moved across Singapore, clusters of COVID-19 infections sweeping through multiple dormitories for foreign workers were making headlines. Tens of thousands of migrant workers were at a much greater risk of infection. This discrepancy is due to living and working conditions, as well as the workers having little access to masks during the quarantine. MORE

While the world and life as we know it has been forever changed with the outbreak of COVID-19, the meaning of Namu —to become one— has never been more relevant. Members of the Shinnyo-en training center in Kenya, having just marked the second anniversary of its opening, learned of a lack of PPE (personal protective equipment) at Mbagati Hospital in Nairobi, and took immediate action. Dedicated practitioners ultimately delivered over 1,000 much needed face shields. MORE

The Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawaii 2020, an annual ceremony that usually takes place every Memorial Day at Ala Moana Beach Park, gathering tens of thousands of participants on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, could not take place in person this year due to concerns amidst the coronavirus pandemic. However, it was observed by broadcast on Hawaii News Now’s KGMB feed and livestreamed online. MORE
