Volunteers Bring the Spirit of ʻOhana to Lantern Floating Hawaii, and Beyond

For many, the personal and collective act of floating a lantern, and watching the soft, flickering lights drift along on the surface of the ocean, is a calming, spiritual and emotional one. At the Lantern Floating Hawaii ceremony that took place on the American national holiday of Memorial Day on May 29, 2017, tens of thousands of people joined together at Ala Moana Beach Park and floated more than 7,000 lanterns. Members of Shinnyo-en Chicago Temple Participate in a Celebration of Cultures with Taiko Performance

Earlier this month, more than 300 people attended an event celebrating the many cultures of Elk Grove, a suburb outside of Chicago, Illinois, at an annual event called the Community Character Coalition of Elk Grove’s “Celebration of Culture.” The Shinnyo-en Chicago Temple, which has had a long-standing friendship with the Community Character Coalition (CCC), was a sponsor of the event this year and many Shinnyo-en Chicago Temple members participated in the festivities. Shinnyo-en Korea Joins the Busan Buddhist Association

In March 2017, Shinnyo-en Korea became an official member of the Busan Buddhist Association. Over the past several years, Shinnyo-en leaders have had the opportunity to visit important temples in Busan, such as the Samkwang Temple of Tiantai Buddhism, in an effort to further the connections of Japanese and South Korean Buddhism through friendly exchange. Restoration of Shinchoji, A Temple Sacred to Shinnyo-en’s Foundation

On November 19th, 2016, Her Holiness Shinso Ito officiated a special Homa (or a “Fire Ritual”) service, to commemorate the restoration of Shinchoji, a temple that is recognized as the founding temple in Shinnyo-en history. Her Holiness officiated the “eye-opening ceremony” for the main Buddha statue at the temple. MORE
